EventsReport on the 2025 School-Wide Japanese Speech Contest
On Friday, February 27, we held a Japanese speech contest at Tokyo International University’s Ikebukuro Campus.
The event began with opening remarks from Principal Kurata, followed by speeches from 13 student representatives from graduating classes on their experiences studying in Japan.
Amid a palpable sense of tension in the venue, each class representative fully demonstrated the results of their practice and delivered outstanding speeches. With warm support from their classmates, the atmosphere in the venue was electric. We believe that the experience of delivering a speech in Japanese in front of a large audience has given the students a great deal of confidence.
Following a rigorous judging process, the following students were selected for the Grand Prize, Excellence Award, Merit Award, and Special Award. Additionally, a Special Award determined by audience voting was presented.
■ Speech Contest Winners
Grand Prize: YOON WATI (Myanmar) [I Who Lost My Dream]
Excellence Award: ZAN MYINT MOE (Myanmar) [The Light Beyond the Silence]
Merit Award: LIN YI QIN (Taiwan)[A Frustration Beyond Words]
Special Award: PARK SUYOUNG (South Korea) [A Family That Gives Me Strength]
After the speech contest concluded, approximately 40 students who expressed interest participated in a tour of the TIU Ikebukuro Campus.
Tokyo International University’s Ikebukuro Campus is equipped with comprehensive facilities that support learning, interaction, and health. In particular, the learning and interaction spaces—comprising the “Global Commons” on the second floor and the “Learning Commons” on the third floor—allow Japanese and international students to deepen their connections using English, Japanese, and other languages, enabling them to study in a global environment. The fact that the campus provides an environment where international students can lead a fulfilling student life without feeling isolated is one of its major attractions.
